I am running Mindfulness classes on Tuesday evenings 7:15-8:30 pm at The Village Hall, Alvechurch (B48 7JX) 10th, 17th, 24th January and 7th February 2023.
These classes are to introduce you to mindfulness meditation and learn how to carry it out at home, in the workplace…anywhere! That is the gift of mindfulness…anyone can do it, it doesn’t require any special equipment or expensive accessories you just need YOU!
“Mindfulness isn’t difficult, we just need to remember to do it”
– Sharon Salzberg.
An important part of mindfulness is reconnecting with our bodies and the sensations they experience. This means paying attention to the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the present moment and come off the auto pilot mode we are all guilty of employing, to get through the monotony of everyday routines.
Becoming more aware of the present moment can help us enjoy the world around us and understand ourselves better. Having added awareness of the present moment allows us to begin to experience afresh things that we have been taking for granted.
Mindfulness also allows us to become further attentive on the stream of thoughts and feelings that we experience, and to see how we can become entangled in that stream, in ways that are not helpful.
This lets us stand back from our thoughts and start to see their patterns. Gradually, we can train ourselves to notice when our thoughts are taking over and realise that thoughts are simply “mental events” that do not have to control us.
Mindfulness can help us deal with issues more productively. It allows you to look at things in a different light: like asking yourself “Is trying to solve this by brooding about it helpful, or am I just getting caught up in my thoughts?”
Mindfulness is recognised by the National Institute for health and care excellence N.I.C.E. to support mental wellbeing and treatment of depression. (Link)
